5A-Identifying Local Opportunities

1.  Clean Water is his Mission

A student at a Hillsborough County middle school has been investigating why there is lead in the school districts water. 
The problem is that there unsafe levels of lead in Hillsborough County schools drinking water. 
The people who have the problem are anybody who attends, teaches, or goes to the school and uses the drinking water.  It could potentially harm them. 

2.  Road Rage is All Around Us

The story is about the amount of road rage that is going on the Tampa Bay Area and how it is increasing all the time and getting worse. 
The problem is that there is a lot of road rage in the Tampa Bay Area and it is dangerous. 
The people who have the problem is anybody who is riding in a car or driving a car.

3.  Spanish-Language Ballots an "impossibility," 32 counties say

The story is about how 32 counties say that they can not make ballots bilingual for upcoming November election.
The problem is that there are many Latino voters in Florida and they will not be able to read it English if they can not read English. 
It will effect anybody who can not speak English but want to vote in the election. 

4.  Sand Key Beach Parking Will Cost $3 Dollars an Hour

The story is that instead of being free, it will cost three dollars an hour to park at the Sand Key Beach parking area instead of being free.
The problem is that it will cost money to park instead of being free like its always been.
The problem will be for anybody that goes to the beach and now has to pay for parking.

5.  Error Costing Pinellas, Some Workers $500k

An error occurred in end of the year tax papers will cost county employees a lot of money.
The problem is that some county employees are going to lose a total of around $500,000. 
The problem will occur for the county employees whose tax records were screwed up.

  1. Hey Peter, really loved your blog post. I think there a lot of really great opportunities here that you were able to find. I like how a lot of the opportunities you found were about the environment and the the parks or beach. I think some of these opportunities are very important, like the opportunity about the Hillsborough county middle school facing lead in its water.

  2. Hey Peter, all of these issues are great to bring up. There is no doubt that there can be solutions for all of these problems, even small ones that will help a little. With things like clean water and road rage, it affects everyone, day to day, and they are extremely important to our wellbeing.

  3. Hey Peter, I really loved this blog post because I am from Tampa also so it was interesting to see local stories like these that are affecting the Tampa Bay area. I am shocked to hear that there are dangerous amounts of lead in the drinking water of public schools in the county. Not only is this an opportunity, it should also be considered a serious threat to those who are at these schools.
